Switzerland skittle Slovenia for just 48
SWITZERLAND found it all too easy as they defeated Slovenia by the mammoth margin of 282 runs, the second day in a row the basement team have conceded more than 300.
The Swiss couldn’t quite match Cyprus’s 360 on Wednesday but their bowlers were much more clinical than their hosts as Slovenia were dismissed for just 48.
The day belonged to Azeem Nazir who scored 175, from just 144 balls with 16 fours and seven sixes. He dominated a third wicket stand of 136 with Sajid Ullah, who had only three boundaries in his 60, but it was after the opener was out that Nazir changed gear.
The last six Switzerland wickets put on 132 and Nazir scored all but 35 of them off the bat.
Slovenia were unable to make any impression on the Swiss bowling and once captain Mark Oman, who dropped himself down to No 4, was caught by Julian Wessel off Tariq Mohammad for just one, there was little resistance. Indeed, only Tom Furness, with 17, reached double figures and he hit the only four boundaries in the innings.
Nazir followed up his batting with bowling figures of three for five from six overs and Munawar Raja had identical figures but was even more economical, bowling eight overs. There were 14 maidens in the innings which lasted 33.3 overs.
Slovenia are now favourites to finish bottom but Switzerland could be two wins away from the top of the table.
