Easy second victory for Israel

ISRAEL made light of the slow pitch and outfield on the bottom pitch at La Manga to post 263 for six against Malta who failed to make any impact on the imposing total and were bowled out in the 46th over for just 90.

Three Israel batsmen scored 50s but none reached 60 which will be a disappointment and could be crucial in tougher games. There were plenty of easy runs in this game however, Shailesh Bangerra scoring the first half century with seven boundaries, Raymond Aston following up with 52 and Gabriel Schachat completing the hat-trick with a run-a-ball 58, including just three fours and a six.

Schachat shared a sixth wicket stand of 93 with Eshkol Solomon in 15 overs before both were out in the 49th over to Malta captain Michael Caruana.

The Malta innings stuttered from the start with two wickets and only nine runs in the first five overs and although they lost only one more wicket in the next 15 overs, just 34 runs were scored to leave them well behind the clock. They never recovered. Six of the seven Israel bowlers took a wicket with Andrew Naudi (26) the only Malta batsman to get past 20.

It gives Israel their second win of the tournament and sets them up for the big game on Wednesday against Isle of Man, the only other team with a 100% record.
