Scotland cruise to victory over Denmark

Denmark's hopes of avoiding another last place finish in the European Under-19 Championship have taken a blow today as they crashed to a nine wicket defeat against hosts Scotland inside three hours.

Denmark won the toss and elected to bat first. There followed an eventful first over, with Denmark scoring 15, but losing three wickets in the process. The first wicket was lost when the batsmen elected to run a third when only two was possible, and soon after that Calum Macleod sent the stumps flying with two consecutive deliveries.

Denmark never really recovered from that start, and some excellent fielding from Scotland meant that Denmark could only make 91 before they were bowled out in the 23rd over. Lars Boldt top scored with 24, whilst Calum Macleod and Matthew Parker both took three wickets for Scotland.

Scotland scored quickly in pursuit of their low target, and Freddie Coleman batted especially well for his 45, scored from 41 balls. Fellow opener Marc Petrie was the only wicket to fall, out for 15 with the score on 24. Ewan Chalmers put on 68 for the second wicket with Coleman as Scotland reached their target in the 18th over, and before the interval.

Scotland scored their runs quickly enough to ensure they top the table ahead of Ireland on net run rate after today's play, and they will play the Netherlands at Greenock CC on Wednesday. Denmark will stay at West of Scotland CC and will play Ireland.
