Gulf in class cruelly exposed

The gulf between the new boys at the top table of world cricket and the most powerful T20 side on the planet was cruelly exposed at Malahide as India scorched to a 143-run victory over Ireland and a 2-0 series victory. Peter Chase dismissed superstar Virat Kohli cheaply for the second time in three days and Kevin O'Brien checked a late run burst with three wickets but there was little else to cheer the home fans in a sell-out crowd of nearly 9,000 as India posted a mighty 213-4.

Kohli's dismissal for nine was a disappointment for the large Indian contingent but their star batsman was only following in the footsteps of West Indian great Brian Lara who failed to reach double figures in four of his five innings against Ireland. The Boys in Green needed a good start to get anywhere near such a total and didn't get one as Paul Stirling fell second ball - the first of three ducks in the innings - and fellow opener James Shannon also failed to reach double figures after his sparkling half-century in the first game.

Wickets continued to tumble, with former skipper William Porterfield falling for 13 on his return to the side, and his successor Gary Wilson bowled for 15 as Ireland were shot out for only 70 in the 13th over, to record their biggest T20 loss.
