The KGV was born in 1936, although due to an administrative oversight, was not registered as a Charitable Trust until 1985.
At that time, the building of a new clubhouse was undertaken, and although donations were received from many local institutions, the project was struggling to raise sufficient funds to reach completion.
At this point, Lloyds Bank, who were the administrators of the late Alan JB Tickle's Trust, stepped in and provided the remaining support needed to enable the KGV clubhouse to be finished.
One of the conditions of the trust has always been that facilities would be provided to nurture and encourage sporting and social interaction for the less fortunate and disabled in the local Community. KGV has been successfully achieving this now since its inception.
The club also provides facilities for some of the more able bodied sportspeople of the Island, being the home of St Jacques Rugby Club and Port City Football Club in the winter season, and the base for Evening League and Weekend League cricket in the summer.
The KGV has been the home of Guernsey cricket for many years now and has seen many an exciting finish as the National XI have taken on visiting sides from around the world and of course from just across the water in Jersey!
