Argentina is one of two South American countries (the other being Guyana) to have hosted first-class cricket, and the Hurlingham Club hosted the first first-class match in Argentina when Argentina beat Lord Hawke's MCC team by 4 wickets in February 1912. The ground dates back even further than that, hosting the North v South match for the first time in 1896, with the South winning by an innings.
The ground hosted three more first-class matches before World War II, and was a regular host for Argentina's matches against Brazil from the 1920s right through to the 1970s. It remains one of the major grounds in the country, and hosted matches in the 2002 Americas Championship, the 2006 Americas Division Two and 2008 Americas Division Three.
