Portugal took on Gibraltar in the game which was played at Carrickfergus. Batting first Portugal lost the early wicket of Paulo Buccimazza for no score. Philip Hudson and Steve Cary were bowling well at this stage and both took two wickets apiece to leave Portugal floundering at 40 for 4 wickets. Ramesh Bagvine and Torben Rankine then added 66 for the 5th wicket to bring things around. Bagvane topo scored with 43 and Rankine made 19. Hussein Cheema and Mohamad Usman both made vital contributions as they scored 25 not out and 24, to take the total to 175 all out. Jonathan Mather took 3 for 32, but it was Philip Hudson with 3 for 9 in his ten overs who had the most remarkable analysis.
In reply Gibraltar suffered early losses as Humayan Shazhad dismissed both Christian Rocca and Ian Farrell. Ramesh Bagvane and Nadeem Butt then got in on the act as they took two wickets apiece to leave Gibraltar on 75 for 7. Steven Gonzalez and Gareth Balban added 59 for the 8th wicket before Gonzalez was out for a top score of 42. Balban was unbeaten on 23 in the Gibraltar total of 143 for 8, which was 32 runs short.
