Germany v Portugal: 25 July

Barry Chambers

Germany once again scored well over 200 but it wasnÕt enough to claim the title. They scored 243 against Portugal with Wicket Keeper Ayoob Pasha (right) top scoring with an unbeaten 78. Anees Butt excellent form in the tournament continued with him making 45, and Zahir Ahmad made an entertaining 40. Humayun Shahzad with 4 for 52 and Nadeem Butt with 2 for 42 were the pick of the bowlers.

No fewer than six of the Portuguese batsmen reached double figures, but with Edward Chambers top score being only 27, they never looked like challenging the imposing German total. Nadeem Butt and Torben Rankine both hit 23, but in the end they were bowled out in 39 overs for 145, to leave the Germans winners by 98 runs. Renald Buss with 3 for 31, Anees Butt 2 for 35, and Zahir Ahmad 2 for 24 were the main contributors with the ball.
