Austria v Israel: 21 July

Barry Chambers

Israel met Austria in a rescheduled game which was switched to Osborne Park. Batting first Israel totalled 253 for 5 wickets in their 50 overs. Wolfang Tesar had removed both openers relatively cheaply, but a 61 run partnership between Steve Shein and Hershel Gutman (right) turned things around. Shein went for 32 but Gutman was then joined by Isaac Massil and the pair put the game beyond the reach of Austria with a 99 run stand. Gutman made 82 and Massil 67 in their teams score. Tesar with 2 for 40 was the best of the Austrian bowlers.

Austria never recovered from an early blitz by David Massil who took 4 early wickets but to their credit they kept battling away. No fewer than six of their batsmen reached double figures, with Lakmal Kasturiarachchige top scoring with 27. Erwin Grasinger made 20 and skipper Andrew Simpson-Parker 18 as Austria were eventually dismissed for 118 to leave Israel winners by 118 runs. David Massil with 4 for 17 excelled with the ball.
