Germany got off to a flying start in the match with Austria as they ran up a mammoth total of 356 for 7 wickets in their 50 overs. Their top seven batsmen all reached double figures, with the left handed Mark Brodersen top scoring with 83. He shared in an opening partnership of 99 with Anees Butt who was dismissed for 44. Skipper Hamed Bhatti blasted 64, wicket keeper Ayoob Pasha made a sparkling 55 and Renald Buss scored a quickfire 48 not out at the end. For Austria 15 year old Lakmal Kasturiarachchige with 2 for 71 was the pick of their attack.
In reply Austria struggled against the accurate German bowling attack and were eventually dismissed for just 76. Only two players managed to reach double figures, Erwin Grasinger who made 38, and Benji Loader who made 10. Farooq Ahmad with 5 wickets for 22 and Renald Buss with 2 for 28 did the damage as Germany ran out winners by 280 runs.
