Ed Joyce scored 73 for Middlesex yesterday as the championship game against Glamorgan petered away into a tame draw. The Dubliner hit ten fours as Middlesex compiled 403-9 in reply to GlamorganÕs 369 in a game that lost the first day and dozens more overs due to rain and bad light. He was out mistiming an ambitious hook off Dale and was caught at fine leg by Matthew Maynard. Joyce has made 451 runs this season in eight innings Ð well on course for his target of 1,000 runs, and up to 22 innings left Ð and his average of 56.4 puts him in the top twenty batsmen in England.
He will be seen at the wicket in Dublin for the only time this summer next Sunday, when Middlesex take on a Merrion selection in a testimonial game for JoyceÕs former Merrion clubmate Philly Quinlan. Former England players John Emburey, Owais Shah and Phil Tufnell will play in the 50 over match which starts at 11am. Tickets are available from Rebecca Rutledge (087-2491766) or Arlene Stanton (086-8181807).
