KEVIN QUINN, one of four celebrated brothers to play for Ireland, died yesterday in Dublin. He was 79.
Kevin was capped seven times for Ireland as an opening batsman between 1957 and 1959, winning his first cap against Scotland at College Park. He made his highest score - 43 - against the 1958 New Zealanders, also at College Park. His occasional slow left arm also claimed one international wicket.
Kevin Quinn was born on 14 March 1923 in Gort, Co Galway, the youngest of the four. and was educated at Belvedere College where he excelled at cricket and rugby. He went on to play rugby for Ireland on five occasions.
His club cricket was played with Phoenix, who he first played for aged 15, and went on to win four league and five cup medals. He scored 4,420 league and cup runs for the club and took 433 wickets.
He had been the last surviving Quinn brother - the others were Frank, Paddy and Gerry - whose remarkable record was equalled only by the Waringstown Harrisons.
