Alan Tuffery has been umpiring for nearly 40 years and has made a great impression both on and off the field fulfilling a variety of important roles.
Umpire and educator. Alan’s umpiring career began in the early 1980s at a time when umpire numbers were very small.
He moved through the ranks and by the mid-1990s was regularly umpiring IPs and women’s international matches.
A university lecturer, he brought his considerable educating skills to umpire training and for more than 30 years from the mid-1980s, countless wannabe umpires were encouraged in their endeavours by his relaxed teaching style.
In recent years, he has become a trusted boundary assessor setting up the LCU&SA system with his colleague John Bristow.
Alan has recently announced his retirement from all roles, and we wish him well on relaxing after what has been a remarkable contribution to umpiring in the region.
