Liam Keegan was an institution - from the late 1970s to the early 2000s, Liam was Mr Umpiring in Leinster.

He served two terms as President of the LCU&SA plus numerous years as Secretary (which he combined with Appointments Secretary for many years).

His appetite for umpiring was unending and he'd happily umpire seven days a week if there were matches to be covered.

He had little sympathy for tail-enders who tried to bat out the last 15 overs for a draw but was always good company on and off the field,

Liam stood in six internationals and numerous IP matches from 1983-98. He was in the middle when Ireland played West Indies and South Africa, as well as Australia A, Lancashire, Worcestershire and Yorkshire.

His most lasting legacy was the establishment of umpiring exchanges with NIACUS members and, from 1989, the annual match between the two associations for the prestigious White Stick Trophy.
